This is the last Wedding Wednesday!!! Isn't that so sad?! Not really, because then we'll be married and honeymooning. Woot!
  • We met with the dj on Thursday. I'm glad that he was so open to all the songs we want to play, because a lot of them are ones that people have never heard of. I was afraid he'd be annoyed by that, but he was cool with it! I made a cd of "cocktail hour songs," "dinner songs," and "dance songs." Hopefully they stick to those!
  • We picked up Philip's wedding ring on Friday. We had to order a different size for him--glad they were able to get it in time and that it fits!
  • Over the weekend I got a lot of stuff done. I was running all over the countryside picking things up. Saturday especially I felt like I got a lot more organized. All of the stuff for the chapel is now downstairs, as well as gifts for people. All of the stuff for the reception is still upstairs.
  • Picked up my dad's suit on Monday!
  • I took my dress to Starcrest Cleaners on Thursday night. You would never believe this, but it's true--$120 to spot clean and steam my wedding dress. Yeah. I was very shocked (and wanted to cry) when they told me that. I ended up taking the dress back home with me so that I could do a little research. After venting about it, I decided that I would just take it back there and cough up the dough. I feel as though they have experience with wedding dresses; I would hate to take it somewhere that was cheaper and then they totally screw it up. So I took it back there Friday and it was supposed to be done yesterday, but alas, no text message yet. Don't tell me it's going to be done Tuesday if it's really not going to be done until Wednesday or later.
  • I had my make-up trial this morning at Fox and Hound's. I don't really know how I feel about it. The girl was pretty heavy-handed with my eye make-up and I told her that. I wish she kinda would've fixed it before I left, but I just went home and took some of it off. I think she has a better idea of what I want on Saturday, but I'm still kinda scared.
  • The musician is now emailing me back and forth about the song I want myself and the bridesmaids to walk to. I had purchased the sheet music off of the internet and now she's telling me it's not right (even though when I sent it to her, she said it looked good). Why she wouldn't just look for the sheet music herself, I'll never know; I don't read music, so I don't know what I'm supposed to be looking for. Oh and she's also saying that both of them need to be at the rehearsal, so that's an extra $35. Bad review for you, Heart Strings Music. Bad review for you. Way to stress me out.
  • I only have a few very small projects to finish. Tomorrow I'm going to Eastland Suites for the final meeting with Kim (the coordinator there). I'll drop off everything to her for the reception. It'll be nice to have it all off of my hands! Good review for Kim and Eastland Suites, though!

Well, I found out for sure today that my supervisor at the Accommodations Office is not leaving. I'm not gonna lie... I'm pretty bummed about it. I had sort of decided that being here for the next few years would be perfect for me. I wasn't banking on the fact that he'd leave (after all, it wasn't a fact), but I just spent a lot of time thinking about what it would be like if he did and now that he's not... well... yeah, I'm just bummed. I'm glad that I asked, though, because now I can take my job search more seriously. Not that I wasn't taking it seriously before, but now I know that being at ISU in that capacity isn't an option anymore and I can put all of my energy into other things. There isn't much happening on the job front here, though. I've only applied for one job in the area; all of the others I've applied for are in Las Vegas and Denver. So the situation with the parent has been, I guess, about 75% resolved. Cecilia did some investigating and it sounds like the whole thing was pretty much pointless (the student doesn't even need the class?!). I'm annoyed and frustrated because the mother took a completely different angle with Cecilia, which probably makes me look worse. Cecilia reassured me that I did fine and that I shouldn't worry about it. I still feel awful; that mother said some very hurtful things that will probably stick with me for awhile. I still feel like crying about the whole thing. I hate feeling incompetent, but the thing that's worse is that I'm worried that Cecilia doesn't think I'm a good advisor. She doesn't know me well enough to know that I care, that I listen, and that I'm patient and understanding. 20 Years Ago - NCHS Color Guard Takes Europe

I was recently reminded of our high school trip to Europe, which happened 20 years ago during this time of year--December 26, 2000 through January 3, 2001. It's wild that this event was more than half my life ago! I felt like going down memory lane and writing about the journey, so henceforth commences my first blog post of 2021, commemorating a long-ago adventure during simpler times (pre-9/11, pre-adulthood, pre-any type of responsibility). The whole music department at Normal Community High School went--marching band, color guard, choir, and orchestra--and we all had performances whilst overseas. I was 16 years old and it didn't register to me at the time how big of a deal it was. I totally took the experience for granted, but, with the proper hindsight now, I'm super grateful.
