Dirt is a family go-to! We love it. I had never made it before this, though! I've just always enjoyed it when my mom or Aunt Peggy would make it. I like this version with the Oreo crust at the bottom, but I know there's another version out there that does not have a crust situation. It's a good dessert for the summer because it's nice and cool out of the fridge. And it's a crowd-pleaser because who doesn't love Oreos?!

I had two packages of Oreos, so I used more than the recipe called for--especially what I saved and put on top. I also had two containers of Cool Whip and used most of both. However, I made two 8x8 pans instead of one 13x9, so this might have made a difference.

The recipe is from my mom's longtime friend, Angie Stirzinger. They worked together at State Farm and Angie moved to Columbus, Ohio when we were kids. The memories below have nothing to do with this recipe for Oreo Dessert, but I like reminiscing so...

We visited Columbus at least once, maybe twice. Angie and her husband had children similar in age to us and they had a sandbox in their backyard which was such a novelty. We visited during the summer when the national car show was held in Columbus. We drove my dad's 1938 Chevy all the way there. I remember doing word searches in the car, looking at the Rand McNally kid's atlas, and listening nonstop to the song "Bad Goodbye" by Clint Black and Wynonna Judd on my Walkman (a song I still love and think is hauntingly beautiful). That song came out in 1993, so I would've been like 9 years old loving this song about leaving someone. 😂 I've posted it below if you want to enjoy it haha.

Whip up some Dirt and listen to early 90s country ballads! Classic.
