• Centerpiece saga: Simple Elegance finally called me back on Wednesday (after I posted last week's Wedding Wednesday). I emailed back and forth with a girl there about what I'm looking for, but haven't heard from her since last Thursday. I randomly got an email from I Do Events, so if they're more responsive, I'm going to go with them instead!
  • My aunt and I took my dad to Men's Wearhouse on Saturday because he's in dire need of a new suit. My pops is a big guy, so I was concerned that we wouldn't find something to suit him (ha!), but we found two that will possibly work. They are ordering one into the store in his size so that we can compare the two different options and choose one.
  • Finally heard back from the musician (Heart Strings) for the ceremony after giving her a call at home. We met on Monday and I have to say that I am unimpressed by this person's professionalism. I feel as though I am generally not too demanding of customer service, but when it comes to our wedding... I am paying good money for people to be on top of things! I'm sure everything will turn out fine, but she wasn't making me feel too confident. I think after everything is said and done that I'm going to do reviews on the internet of each and every person that I hired for the wedding, because some have been great... others not so great! 
  • Crafting of programs and table numbers was happening over the weekend. I have to say... there is a lot of tender, loving care that has gone into each and every thing that I've created for this wedding. I have been so detail oriented that when I look at my last name printed on these things, I am sometimes not sure if I've spelled it right because I've looked at it so many times! That may sound crazy, but it's happening! I have triple checked and it all is just blurring together at this point!
  • I had my hair trial on Sunday! Way back in like December I recruited my friend from high school, TJ, to do it. She does hair up in the Naperville area and she's awesome. She came over to our place and we had a hair fiesta in the bathroom. It looked so pretty and it makes me so excited! Philip was in the bedroom napping and my hair looked so cute that I couldn't just take it out right away (I didn't want him to see it!), so I ran around to a few stores and then I went up to my aunt's and we talked wedding for like two hours. We took my hair down and it was so curly and pretty--I hated to take a shower!
  • One less thing to drive me crazy that I haven't been able to figure out for awhile--how to line up the table numbers with the dots leading in Microsoft Word for the seating chart. Sounds easy, but it was kinda complicated and it makes me happy for it to look how I want it to.

Well, I found out for sure today that my supervisor at the Accommodations Office is not leaving. I'm not gonna lie... I'm pretty bummed about it. I had sort of decided that being here for the next few years would be perfect for me. I wasn't banking on the fact that he'd leave (after all, it wasn't a fact), but I just spent a lot of time thinking about what it would be like if he did and now that he's not... well... yeah, I'm just bummed. I'm glad that I asked, though, because now I can take my job search more seriously. Not that I wasn't taking it seriously before, but now I know that being at ISU in that capacity isn't an option anymore and I can put all of my energy into other things. So the situation with the parent has been, I guess, about 75% resolved. Cecilia did some investigating and it sounds like the whole thing was pretty much pointless (the student doesn't even need the class?!). I'm annoyed and frustrated because the mother took a completely different angle with Cecilia, which probably makes me look worse. Cecilia reassured me that I did fine and that I shouldn't worry about it. I still feel awful; that mother said some very hurtful things that will probably stick with me for awhile. I still feel like crying about the whole thing. I hate feeling incompetent, but the thing that's worse is that I'm worried that Cecilia doesn't think I'm a good advisor. She doesn't know me well enough to know that I care, that I listen, and that I'm patient and understanding. 20 Years Ago - NCHS Color Guard Takes Europe

I was recently reminded of our high school trip to Europe, which happened 20 years ago during this time of year--December 26, 2000 through January 3, 2001. It's wild that this event was more than half my life ago! I felt like going down memory lane and writing about the journey, so henceforth commences my first blog post of 2021, commemorating a long-ago adventure during simpler times (pre-9/11, pre-adulthood, pre-any type of responsibility). The whole music department at Normal Community High School went--marching band, color guard, choir, and orchestra--and we all had performances whilst overseas. I was 16 years old and it didn't register to me at the time how big of a deal it was. I totally took the experience for granted, but, with the proper hindsight now, I'm super grateful.
