Marriage Monday - My Something Old/Something Borrowed


Christmas Eve and Christmas got in the way of Marriage Monday...

I had a really hard time coming up with stuff for my something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. I wasn't opposed to not really doing it if I didn't find something for each thing. One night my dad and I scoured my mom's jewelry looking. I found something that I thought might work for my something old/borrowed/blue and I kept it in the back of my mind if I didn't find anything else over the months and weeks leading up to the wedding.

It ended up being my something old and borrowed.


Actually I ended up putting it in our wedding keepsake box, so I guess I can't even call it borrowed. But it is, in a sense.

So my mom collected Precious Moments. Our whole house is full of them... there are curio cabinets and shelves of them all over the downstairs. As a kid, she tried to get me on board by buying me pieces. I myself have two shelves of them to this day in my bedroom. I think they're cute and all, but the collection is all her. This Precious Moments pin just worked; I knew I could put on my bouquet and it ended up being a really nice reminder of her.

I posted this picture on facebook and I'm friends with several of my mom friends from State Farm. One in particular posted a comment that brought tears to my eyes. They knew of her love of Precious Moments.

I'm so glad that the pin caught the photographer's eye and she captured it.

Other Marriage Monday stuff:

  • We finally got our wedding video. I say "finally" all exaggerated because it felt like forever (almost 3 months), but in reality, I have no idea how long it would typically take to finish such a thing. It was worth the wait because it was amazing. I was nervous watching just like I was on the day, I cried and laughed just like I did on the day... it was awesome.
  • I watched the video on my own this past Friday night because Philip was hanging out with a friend. I cried again! (I know I will cry every time I watch it probably!) I think it's clear that we just are best friends and I'm glad that we knew each other so well when we got married. We've done a lot growing up together; I fully believe that we are quite different people now than we were when we met. We have seen each other through a lot of stuff. I'm just so excited to see how we change over the years as we continue to be better and better bffs. :)

Well, I found out for sure today that my supervisor at the Accommodations Office is not leaving. I'm not gonna lie... I'm pretty bummed about it. I had sort of decided that being here for the next few years would be perfect for me. I wasn't banking on the fact that he'd leave (after all, it wasn't a fact), but I just spent a lot of time thinking about what it would be like if he did and now that he's not... well... yeah, I'm just bummed. I'm glad that I asked, though, because now I can take my job search more seriously. So the situation with the parent has been, I guess, about 75% resolved. Cecilia did some investigating and it sounds like the whole thing was pretty much pointless (the student doesn't even need the class?!). I'm annoyed and frustrated because the mother took a completely different angle with Cecilia, which probably makes me look worse. Cecilia reassured me that I did fine and that I shouldn't worry about it. I still feel awful; that mother said some very hurtful things that will probably stick with me for awhile. I still feel like crying about the whole thing. I hate feeling incompetent, but the thing that's worse is that I'm worried that Cecilia doesn't think I'm a good advisor. She doesn't know me well enough to know that I care, that I listen, and that I'm patient and understanding. 20 Years Ago - NCHS Color Guard Takes Europe

I was recently reminded of our high school trip to Europe, which happened 20 years ago during this time of year--December 26, 2000 through January 3, 2001. It's wild that this event was more than half my life ago! I felt like going down memory lane and writing about the journey, so henceforth commences my first blog post of 2021, commemorating a long-ago adventure during simpler times (pre-9/11, pre-adulthood, pre-any type of responsibility). The whole music department at Normal Community High School went--marching band, color guard, choir, and orchestra--and we all had performances whilst overseas. I was 16 years old and it didn't register to me at the time how big of a deal it was. I totally took the experience for granted, but, with the proper hindsight now, I'm super grateful.
